Activities

A list of practical activities to organize with other students inside of the XML.

sorting

The sorting sessions are meant to group things together as much as possible in either shelves or boxes.

labelling

A lot of equipment at XPUB gets transported around to build up various student work, not everything is labelled so the labelling sessions are meetings where we put stickers on our tools (also with annotations).

inventoring

The XML has many things inside of it, but not everyone knows about what is available. Inventoring sessions (parties) are meant to get familiar with the space and collectively build an inventory to map the space and its contents first hand. On March 16th 2026 @sevgi hosted the first iteration of an inventory party session, it is documented over at this page.

building @ the interaction station

There's a loooot of small electronics components inside of the XML, most of them are inside of big boxes, to even recover all of them and sort them is a lot of work, what can be done to facilitate this work is to go down at the interaction station and laser cut some small boxes to group these very small components for future use.

sharing thoughts on maintenance

Public talks on the topic of maintenance and care work to raise interest and share resources.

device explorations

The XML has a lot of equipment ready to be used, but some of it is definitely so old that it is new for someone who has never seen it. Instead of focussing on the functionalities only the device exploration sessions are meant to get familiar with unknown tools or devices discovering things in a very hands on way.

testing parties

Testing out if the material we have stored inside of the XML is properly working, to make sure that we don't rely on things that are broken.
